Meeting a new neighbor
Someone has just moved in nearby, and this is the doorstep conversation that sets the tone.
What makes this one hard
Doorstep conversations come with a built-in exit and you are expected to use it: "I'll let you get back to your boxes" ends things warmly without either of you having to invent a reason. Offers work differently here too. 언제든지 말씀하세요 translates to "let me know if you need anything", which native speakers hear as a friendly noise rather than an offer — one specific thing, like which day the bins go out or where the parking permits come from, is worth more than a standing invitation.
