Office hours: ask for a rec letter
Visit your professor to ask for a recommendation letter — for grad school, a job, or a fellowship.
What makes this one hard
This is a large ask, and English handles large asks by making refusal easy — offering an out is what makes the request polite rather than presumptuous. It also runs on specifics: which program, what deadline, what you would send them.
